Bedding in the new chipseal on SH1 at Rangiriri

Resurfacing work on State Highway 1 at Rangiriri is on track for completion by Easter but road users should still allow extra time to get through the site this weekend.

A final chip-seal surface is being laid, along the 4.8km stretch of Waikato Expressway, completing the extensive remedial works that started last year. The northbound lanes have been completed and both northbound lanes will be open to traffic from Friday, 22 March.

SH1 Northbound Off-ramp At Papakura is now Open

Project teams have worked hard over the last three weeks to rebuild the Papakura northbound off-ramp, part of important strengthening work needed for the SH1 Papakura to Drury project.

The Papakura ki Pukekura - Papakura to Bombay project is part of a longer-term strategic transport network being investigated and delivered to support growth in South Auckland. Stage 1 of the project, Papakura to Drury, is currently being delivered through the NZ Upgrade Programme.

State Highway 1 Picton Elevation – Slow vehicle lane back in May

Work on State Highway 1, Picton Elevation, gets back into gear next Monday (25 March).

Due to the amount and condition of the slip material that needs to be removed from the work site, the date for nighttime stop/go traffic management of these works has been delayed.

While daytime works under a 30 km/h temporary speed limit will still begin next Monday (25 March), works under stop/go traffic control at night (6 pm to 6 am) will now begin on Monday, 8 April.

The first unit of 151 eDaily chassis cabs has been delivered to Tesco, with the remaining units to join its electric IVECO fleet later in the year.

The end of Road to Zero

Media interest this week was around International Women’s Day, which was Friday last week, and the government scrapping Road to Zero.

It may sound weird but there are similarities in how I think about these.

The Road to Zero was launched with much fanfare in 2019 and it set an interim target of a 40% reduction in deaths and serious injuries by 2030 against a 2018 baseline.
