Reminder of SH29 Kaimai Range closures – 17 to 21 March

Following last month’s night closures, the second scheduled closures on State Highway 29 Kaimai Range will take place over 5 nights from Sunday 17 March to Thursday 21 March, from 8pm to 3.30am each night.

The closures are needed to undertake asphalt renewals and other maintenance such as clearing drains, sign maintenance and road marking.

This will result in a smoother, safer road for motorists and the full closure approach is safer for our crews and road users.

Truckometer - Leaps in February

According to the latest Truckometer report, the Light Traffic Index (LTI) rose 1.9% month on month in February, while the Heavy Traffic Index (HTI) rose 2.4% in the month. However, while both indices have a mild upward trend, in per capita terms they are both trending down.

Two lengthy closures at Gates of Haast bridge

People using the Haast Pass South Westland route between Makarora in Otago and Haast township in South Westland will face lengthy delays next week on Tuesday, 19 March. 

The single lane Gates of Haast bridge on SH6 is getting substantial maintenance repairs – a new concrete dish channel, new handrails and posts and resurfaced bridge approaches, says NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
