Upcoming Overnight Closures For SH18 Upper Harbour Bridge

Overnight maintenance work to install a moveable barrier on SH18 Upper Harbour Bridge will take place from Monday 3 June (King's Birthday) to Tuesday 11 June between 9pm and 5am. 

Work will only be carried out Sunday to Thursday nights. A full eastbound closure between Brigham Creek and Squadron Drive will be required during this time and a detour is available via Brigham Creek Road, Hobsonville Road, Buckley Avenue to Squadron Drive.

UPDATE: Night works and closure planned to complete improved safety barriers for State Highway 2 Petone

New dates and times for these works have now been confirmed. Work crews will resume replacing median barriers near the State Highway 2 Petone Overbridge on Monday, 3 June.

This work will be ongoing in two separate phases over the next two weeks.

The median barrier improvements will require a full closure of State Highway 2 for northbound traffic on Monday to Thursday nights next week.

This will be followed by a full southbound closure on Sunday to Thursday nights of the following week (9 – 13 June).

Volvo Trucks is developing trucks with combustion engines that run on hydrogen. On-road tests with trucks using hydrogen in combustion engines will begin in 2026, and the commercial launch is planned towards the end of this decade. The highlight for me this week was attending the Wood Transport and Logistics Conference in Rotorua. This was timely, given policy advisor Billy Clemens and I met with the Climate Change Commission the day prior.
