Trucking firms concerned at reported delay in dropping fuel prices

Road freight peak body Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand is concerned by a Commerce Commission analysis, showing fuel retailers are slow to bring prices down in response to global oil prices and exchange rate changes. The Commission’s analysis found this lopsided approach leaves Kiwis paying more for longer than they should – for up to two weeks, costing around $15 million per year.

According to the latest Truckometer report, the Light Traffic Index (LTI) fell 0.4% m/m in May, while the Heavy Traffic Index (HTI) fell 2.3% month on month.

Light traffic (motorbikes, cars and vans) is generally a good indicator of the state of demand, as opposed to production. In the absence of sudden shocks, the light traffic data provides a 6-month lead on momentum in the economy – variation in it reflects discretionary spending on outings, movement in courier and tradespeople, etc.

Auckland Council to investigate ‘Time Of Use’ Charging

In 2020, a report by the Ministry of Transport found that time of use charging could transform Auckland’s roads by reducing traffic by 8-12%. This could mean our motorways could function as they currently do during the school holidays, all year round.

Pothole funding confirmation good news for truck drivers

NZTA confirmation today that it will deliver $2.07 billion for State Highway Pothole Prevention and $1.9 billion for Local Road Pothole Prevention is good news for truck drivers.
