A stretch of State Highway 2 Hawke’s Bay Expressway will be closed overnight this Sunday (27 July) for routine maintenance.
The road will be closed between the Prebensen Drive and Taradale Road roundabouts from 8pm until 5am.
A detour, suitable for all vehicles, will be in place. Northbound traffic will be detoured onto Taradale Road, Hyderabad Road and Prebensen Drive. The reverse will apply for southbound traffic.
The detour is expected to add up to 10 minutes to journey times.

Transporting New Zealand is welcoming a decline in road freight transport workplace injuries, saying it shows industry commitment to health and safety improvements.
Data released by ACC shows that annual injury claims have fallen by 35 per cent between 2018 and 2025, showing a consistent decline in workplace injuries despite growth in the national freight task. Claims fell across all 16 regions, with Northland and West Coast recording the largest percentage drops (56 per cent and 54 per cent respectively).

The new off-ramp to Pāpāmoa East will be open by the end of August 2025
Tauranga City Council is pleased to be opening the off-ramp from the Tauranga Eastern Link (TEL) to Pāpāmoa East at the end of August, months ahead of schedule.
The Council has worked with the project contractor, Minister for Transport Chris Bishop, the New Zealand Transport Agency and local MP Tom Rutherford to make this a reality.

ACC injury claims tracking down
As part of our regular catchup with ACC and our request for data it was great to see with injury claims in the “Road freight transport” category have continued to trend down generally over the last 8 years. 2024/25 claims in road freight transport are the lowest since 2017/18 and represent a decrease of about 34% over that period.
