Now Tauranga-based Preco has a truck of its own on the road. And it didn’t need to look very far to decide on its first truck.

Head office for the company is the Tauriko business estate, and not far along the new network of roads is the recently opened Penske dealership.

A fleet replacement plan at Porter Haulage has recently put new Kenworth T909 twins on the road – one working in the North Island and other South Island-based.

“Our [Kenworth] 904s were the flagships for us quite a few years ago and we have just completed a bit of a fleet renewal plan in the last year replacing some of the older trucks,” says Jason Pilling, Porter Haulage Manager.

“These ones will be our new flagship units. They will do a huge variety of work moving all the big machines around for us. One is based in Hamilton and the other in Christchurch, but they will also do some inter-island work.”

The T909 drivers are David Foote and Jake Taylor.

“It’s a bit of a statement,” says Jared Hawkins, the youngest of Trevor’s three sons who now own the company Trevor started back in 1982.

“This one is our 40-year anniversary truck and a tribute to Mum (Carol) and Dad,” says Jared.
