Reminder of Auckland Harbour Bridge summer maintenance

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is reminding motorists about summer maintenance on the Auckland Harbour Bridge from now until early April.

‘The summer maintenance programme will focus on recoating parts of the bridge overarches and require lane restrictions to keep our teams safe while they carry out this important maintenance’.

The full schedule can be found on the NZTA website however, the work will include lane restrictions (North and South) between 10pm and 5am.

Wins and wins for the week

There were two big highlights in the last week, one for our industry and one for the country.

The industry one was presenting a bravery award to Hall’s driver Tony Cook in Christchurch.

I was joined with John Collins from EROAD, one of our key partners, in saying thanks, and bloody good job!

Tony put himself on the line to offer help and support after a nasty car accident near Ward, in November, and there’ll be an interview with Tony in February’s Transporting News magazine.

Zero emission trucks face challenges as light vehicle RUC exemption ends

The Government’s announcement that the Road User Charges (RUC) exemption for light electric vehicles and plug in hybrids will end in April is good news for the state of the roads. But it also highlights the challenges to zero emission truck uptake, says road freight peak body Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand.

EV Trucks exempt from RUC until 2025

The coalition Government has confirmed that the exemption from road user charges (RUC) for owners of light electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids will end from 1 April, however, only light EVs (those weighing 3500kg or less) are losing their RUC exemption - Heavy electric vehicles will be hit by RUCs from December 31, 2025.
