Key milestone for new Ashburton Bridge

The long-awaited second Ashburton Bridge is a step closer with the signing of a key agreement, Minister for the South Island and Associate Transport Minister James Meager has announced.
“The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has signed a contract with Fletchers Construction to progress the detailed bridge design, so that construction can kick off next year,” Mr Meager says.
“This is real progress towards the National Party’s campaign promise to start construction of the bridge in our first term.

Penske New Zealand has strengthened its national footprint by welcoming three new truck parts and service dealers to its network in Whangarei, Gisborne, and Blenheim.
Total Parts and Service (TPS) in Gisborne, Whangarei Diesels, and On Site Mechanical Repairs in Blenheim will service the MAN Truck & Bus, Western Star Trucks, and Detroit brands.

The Maritime Union of New Zealand (MUNZ) has responded strongly to claims of a “productivity crisis” in New Zealand ports.
MUNZ National Secretary Carl Findlay says New Zealand’s supply chain vulnerability has its roots in the lack of a national ports and coastal shipping strategy.

The first major works of the state highway summer maintenance programme are about to get underway in the Hutt Valley.
Roxanne Hilliard, Wellington Alliance Manager, says State Highway 2 through the Hutt Valley will have nighttime resurfacing works underway from mid-September to late October.
“Our crews will be resurfacing sections of State Highway 2, at night, from Petone all the way north to Totara Park.”
