Scania has announced a stellar year for 2024, reporting record sales and earnings while making significant strides towards decarbonization. The company's Annual and Sustainability Report, released today, provides a comprehensive overview of these accomplishments and underlines its commitment to environmental sustainability and operational excellence.

Scania's financial performance in 2024 reached new heights: Net sales increased by 6%, reaching SEK 216.1 billion, compared to SEK 204.1 billion in 2023. Adjusted operating income climbed to SEK 30.4 billion (from SEK 26.0 billion), with an improved margin of 14.1% (up from 12.7%). Vehicle deliveries surpassed the 100,000 mark for the first time, rising by 6% to 102,069 units. This included 266 Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV), a gain from 246 units in 2023. Revenue from services rose by 3%, underscoring Scania's diversification success.

The fourth quarter saw slight declines in net sales (down 4% to SEK 57.4 billion) and deliveries (down 3% to 28,014 vehicles), but Scania maintained robust operating margins of 13.3% and experienced a 10% boost in vehicle orders, rising to 24,599 units.

Scania attributed its success to strategic market adjustments and solid operational execution: In Europe, despite a cautious market, Scania's Super driveline technology helped grow its market share by over 2%, reaching 17.8%. In Latin America, the company expanded market share to 17.3%, with strong demand in Brazil driving growth. Investments in a new industrial hub in China and ramped-up production capacity showcased Scania’s long-term commitment to global growth.

Christian Levin, Scania’s CEO, celebrated the record-breaking year but acknowledged challenges, such as scaling battery-electric truck production and implementing new software platforms. To address these, Scania is expanding its supplier network to enhance resilience and streamline deliveries.

Sustainability remained a core focus for Scania in 2024: Operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2) were reduced by 47% through green electricity, energy efficiency measures, and decarbonized logistics. Scania is on track to outperform its 2025 goal of a 50% reduction.

Scope 3 emissions (from vehicles in use) fell by 12%, and Scania is intensifying efforts to meet its 2025 target of 20%. Scania announced bold 2032 targets, including a 50% reduction in operational emissions and a 45% cut in emissions from vehicles in use (both compared to 2022 levels).

Levin emphasised Scania’s unwavering commitment to aligning with science-based environmental goals and positioning the company as a leader in sustainable transport.

Scania’s annual report reflects its alignment with the forthcoming European Sustainability Reporting Standards, showcasing the company's dedication to transparency and accountability. The full report is now available on Scania’s website.
