Works Underway As Waitohi Picton Ferry Redevelopment Project Moves Into Delivery Phase
Posted on 15-Jan-2026

Physical works on the Waitohi Ferry Redevelopment Project are now underway, with demolition of the old Vehicle Access Bridge commencing this week in Picton. The start of demolition marks a decisive transition from planning to delivery on one of New Zealand’s most significant pieces of national transport infrastructure and confirms Waitohi Picton as the long-term home of New Zealand’s inter-island ferry connection.

The Vehicle Access Bridge, a 250-metre concrete and steel structure that has served Cook Strait travellers...

Let’s not let a few bad apples spoil the whole barrel
Posted on 12-Dec-2025

NZTA has recently suspended the licences of commercial drivers who were either suspected of submitting fraudulent documents when converting their overseas licences or whose licences were converted to the incorrect class.

It is providing a limited window of time for those drivers to re-sit the relevant tests.

ASB Quarterly Economic Forecasts - Have we got some lift off?
Posted on 11-Dec-2025

The economy does look like it is turning the corner after a rocky ride since last year’s sharp recession. The evidence of green shoots has been a bit more obvious in some areas lately. We expect growth will pick up to hit an above annual trend pace of 2.5+% growth over 2026 as better cashflows start to leak out of people’s wallets.

The main thing fuelling the recovery will be the low level of interest rates. Even though the RBNZ has stopped cutting interest rates now in our view, the impact will live on. The average mo...

Contract for new SH25 Pepe Stream bridge signed
Posted on 11-Dec-2025

Transport Minister Chris Bishop has welcomed news that a contract has been confirmed for design, consenting, and construction of the new two-lane bridge to replace the Pepe Stream Bridge on State Highway 25 (SH25).

Funding has already been confirmed by New Zealand Transport Agency NZTA, and I’m pleased progress has been made to get a delivery contractor on board,” Mr Bishop says.
