The latest in a 30-year sequence of yellow and white livestock truck for Mangatainoka’s D & J Fitzgerald Ltd is a 2024 Volvo FH16 Globetrotter.

The new 8x4 Globetrotter with 700hp Euro 5 spec D16 powerplant and I-Shift transmission and is one of four livestock trucks run by Dean (Fitzy) and Jane Fitzgerald, working mainly in the Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay and Manawatu regions.

The FH16, which carries the registration number FITSY2 and works on a 50t permit, is Fitzy’s daily drive. It went on the road in mid-2024, when Dean needed an extra truck to join a 700hp Low Roof Volvo FH and a couple of Isuzus in the fleet.

Going into business for yourself is a huge undertaking at the best of times. You want to be different, fill a niche and be successful at doing whatever it is that you do, and Maximus Cranes have started out doing just that.

Operating out of Christchurch, Maximus Cranes owners Ben and Farina, have put their first crane truck to work, complete with a new Palfinger PK 1050 TEC which is the largest Palfinger Crane fitted to a truck in New Zealand.

As the saying goes “goods things take time” so waiting for a new Kenworth K220 to be ready for the road and our photo session was well worth it.

Maramarua-based W.E. Hale Ltd is celebrating 50 years in business this year, so what better way to celebrate than putting another stunning new K220 Flat Roof bulk unit on the road sold by Tim Finlay at Southpac Trucks.

Humble and understated owner Mark (William) Hale isn’t much for shouting about his achievements, but the locals know and with his KBS (Karaka Bulk Spreading 2018) and W. E. Hale Transport bulk commodities fleet now numbering over 20 trucks, the half-century milestone is well worthy of celebrating.

Nearly all of the larger Volvo trucks sold in New Zealand are built at the Volvo Group Australia plant at Wacol, Queensland.

This new Williams Salvage Volvo FM 540 8x4 which went to work in the Waikato region at the end of last year has even more Aussie input.

After rolling off the Wacol production line – complete with heavy duty double skin chassis rails, leaf spring trunnion rear suspension and hub reduction gearing – the cab and chassis moved to the Sunshine Coast headquarters of salvage and towing equipment manufacturer Ekebol.
