National road freight association Transporting New Zealand has welcomed the certainty provided by Minister Peter’s announcement on the Cook Strait ferry project, saying it will allow the Government to focus on the timely delivery of the supporting port infrastructure by 2029.

This week NZTA fired a major warning shot in the battle against fraudulent driver licences. The land transport regulator has moved to cancel 440 commercial driver licences due to fraudulent activity.

Drivers under the influence of drugs will soon face tougher enforcement on New Zealand roads, with the Government confirming which drugs will be screened under the new oral-fluid roadside testing regime, Transport Minister Chris Bishop and Police Minister Mark Mitchell say.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) has revoked 440 commercial driver licences following the discovery of fraudulent activity.
The licences have been revoked after the discovery of false or altered documentation provided by individuals converting overseas licences to New Zealand licences.
Inconsistencies in the documents provided during the conversion process were discovered during an audit undertaken by NZTA in July 2025.
