Fuel stocks remain healthy, monitoring steps up

The latest data on fuel stocks shows New Zealand continues to hold healthy levels of petrol, diesel and jet fuel, Finance Minister Nicola Willis and Associate Energy Minister Shane Jones say. 

“As at midnight on Sunday 15 March, combined petrol, diesel and jet fuel stocks equated to about 49 days of cover nationwide, including fuel held onshore in storage terminals and fuel already on ships bound for New Zealand,” Nicola Willis says.

Oil Tickets - New Zealand playing its part in global oil response

New Zealand will release oil tickets to fulfil its commitment to the International Energy Agency’s collective action in response to the oil supply issues created by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Work on a key bridge link is complete, but those travelling on State Highway 73 between Christchurch and the West Coast should be aware of other work underway that may extend their journeys over the coming days.

SH1 Onewa Road Gantry Removal Easter – Heavy Vehicles Take Western Ring Route

On Easter Monday (6 April 2026) between midnight and 5am, heavy vehicles will not be able to travel north on State Highway 1 (SH1) after the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Electronic signage will instruct heavies to take State Highway 16 (SH16) and State Highway 18 (SH18) Western Ring Route, while we remove a sign gantry on the north end of the bridge by Stafford Road.
