Over Half Of Drivers Distracted, And 21% Have Driven Under The Influence, New Research Shows

Insurer AMI is cautioning drivers to be safe on the roads, as new research reveals that 55% of drivers admit to being distracted while driving, and 21% said they’d driven under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The national survey also showed that mobile phones were responsible for distracting 30% of drivers in the past year, and 68% considered them the biggest distraction to contend with while driving.

Realignment Of SH1 Northbound Traffic Lanes At Papakura Next Monday Night

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is advising motorists in South Auckland that, subject to weather, the two northbound lanes on the SH1 Southern Motorway from opposite the BP motorway service centre north of Drury up to the northbound off-ramp at Papakura Interchange will be moved across to the west onto newly formed traffic lanes overnight on Monday 22 April.

This means the two northbound lanes will no longer be separated by the central median barrier, as they have been since September last year.

Each year, all the manufacturers of heavy trucks in Europe are invited to the Green Truck comparison test. It is organised by two German trade magazines to identify the most transport-efficient long-haul truck. Weichai Power, a Chinese powertrain supplier, has unveiled a diesel engine that it reports has a record-breaking intrinsic thermal efficiency of 53.09%.

Government consults on extending coastal permits for ports for 20 years

RMA Reform Minister Chris Bishop and Transport Minister Simeon Brown have today announced the Coalition Government’s intention to extend port coastal permits for a further 20 years, providing port operators with certainty to continue their operations.
