This year’s run of record-breaking sales for the New Zealand heavy truck market came to an end in June.

After five straight months of alltime bests, the market cooled – dropping to 402 registrations compared to May’s 518, and last year’s benchmark June tally of 510.

However, this year’s string of unprecedented monthly sales still carried the 2019 first-half registrations total to a new record, with 2621 sales in the overall market (4.5 tonnes GVM and above).

Total sales for the first half were 3.9% up on 2018’s 2518 registrations at the same point – a modest increase compared to the 10% to 40% gains common since 2010 (when... ... 

New Zealand’s heavy truck sales had another record month in May – setting new benchmarks for the month and the year to date.

With 518 May registrations, the overall truck market (4.5 tonnes to maximum GVM), was 14.85% up on 2018’s record-breaking May.

And that pushed the year-to-date registration total at the end of May out to another alltime record – 2218 registrations compared to last year’s 2008….a 10.45% improvement.

Market leader Isuzu had another bumper month, with 126 May registrations in the overall market, taking its YTD total to 514 and increasing its lead over second-placed FUSO (348 YTD and 75 for the month).

The New Zealand new truck market continued its record-breaking form in April. 

Four hundred trucks were registered for the month in the overall market (trucks with a GVM of 4.5 tonnes or more), taking the total sales for the first four months of the year to 1700, according to official NZ Transport Agency data.

That was a 7% improvement on the previous best-ever April registration tally – the 372 recorded last year. 

The YTD total at the end of April was also an alltime best – an 8.4% increase on last year’s 1557 registrations.

New Zealand’s new truck market continued to run at record levels in March – with the overall market’s best-ever figures for the month.

The 495 registrations of trucks with GVMs over 4.5 tonnes was 6.7% up on March 2018 and 2.3% ahead of the previous record of 484, set in 2017. 

The 1300 trucks (4.5t to maximum GVM) registered to the end of March was also the best first-quarter performance ever, almost 10% better than the old mark.

The trailer market, while still buoyant – with 153 March registrations – was eight short of last year’s record March and the 371 YTD total was also down on last year’s 384.
