It was riding in the passenger seat alongside his father in Blackwell’s Transport 3070s that sparked James Craw’s love for International Trucks.

When Blackwell’s called on James’ dad to do the odd bit of relief driving, James was always keen to ride along and enjoy a break from the family dairy farm at Barrys Bay, near Akaroa.

Today James owns Christchurch’s Blue Diamond Haulage and it’s a 2021 International Prostar T6 model which is the first new truck for the company.

In 2004 James started JCL Asphalt in Canterbury with an Isuzu 5-tonne tipper. That company has grown to a fleet of Volvo and Isuzu branded trucks and is well known for their exceptional work.

Introducing a new Mack Anthem to its fleet has been accompanied by a few subtle changes to the familiar green and gold livery of Tomoana Warehousing.

Boasting a strong yellow theme along with two-tone green in the detailing, this new Anthem hit the highways about three months ago. 

Working from Hastings, the 8x4 Anthem is teamed with a new Patchell Industries 4-axle skelly to cart containers around the North Island. It’s become a regular sight working between Tauranga and Napier.

It’s one of the first examples of Mack’s newest model to appear on New Zealand roads and its timing is on-point as the bulldog marque is celebrating 50 years since Motor Truck Distribut... ... 

Some of the recent additions to the J Swap Contractors fleet have been attention grabbers decked out with mural size colour photograph wraps running the full length along truck and trailer bodies.

Many of the J Swap trucks with these modern visuals depict the various activities which the company is involved in and also some of the history of the Matamata-based firm which is closing in on its 90th anniversary.

The new DAF featuring on this month’s Double Coin Tyres Transport Imaging Awards poster has a different message to share. J Swap decided to create a mobile billboard to boost the profile of the Rural Support trusts.

The colour is familiar but the most recent addition to the Summerland Express Freight fleet is something different for the Cromwell-based freight company.

The new Kenworth K200 2.3 Aerodyne sleeper that is working throughout New Zealand is the only Kenworth among the 100-plus fleet operating in the Summerland signature green colour scheme.

“I’ve been a Freightliner guy most of my life, mainly because I like the Detroit engine,” says director Ross “Smilie” Millard.

It took some family persuasion for Smilie to set that loyalty aside and put the new K200 on the fleet in February for son-in-law Ricky Rodgers to drive.
