New truck and trailer registrations for June confirms the slow progress of the New Zealand market through the first half of 2025.
The June 2025 monthly registration total for new trucks (4.5 tonnes GVM and above) of 293 units is 14 ahead of the May total. But it’s down from 437 registrations in June 2024 and the year to date (YTD) total is now 1759 units, compared to 2083 units at the same time last year, representing a 15.6% drop year-on-year.
The trailer market, with 76 June registrations, is also down on the same month last year of 116, and is now 29.2% behind 2018’s all-time best June figure of 164. Trailer registrations in the first half of this year are 468 units, down from 776 at the same point last year.
The overall truck market leader in June is Isuzu with 76 registrations to build its half year total to 333 registrations. Second placed Hino (276/53) and third placed Fuso (229/29) continue in the same positions they held in May.

Scania (191/27) remains fourth, while Volvo (120/16) is joined by Kenworth (120/20) in a tie for fifth ranking. Iveco (107/18) retains seventh followed by DAF (64/10) and Mercedes-Benz (64/11) while UD (58/9) rounds out the top-10 in the June YTD figures.
In the 3.5-4.5t GVM crossover segment, LDV has reached 143 units YTD by adding 19 registrations for the month, edging the top spot away from Fiat (142/17). Both brands have double the registrations of third placed Mercedes-Benz (71/16).
In the 4.5-7.5t category, Isuzu (123/30) is strengthening its lead, ahead of Fuso (82/15), Iveco (63/10), Hino (47/12), Mercedes-Benz (38/5), Foton (34/4), Volkswagen (31/6) and Hyundai (25/4).
Isuzu (136/32) continues to dominate the 7.5-15t segment, with Hino (98/15) a long way behind in second and Fuso (70/6) third.
In the 15-20.5t segment, Isuzu (35/4) commands the top spot ahead of Fuso (10/0) and UD (7/2) in third.
In the very small 20.5-23t segment, Hino (8/2) remains at the top ahead of Scania (4/2). Isuzu (2/2) joined this segment in June with its first registrations for the year.
In the premium 23t to maximum GVM category, Scania (181/22) continues to dominate, slightly extending its leadership ahead of Kenworth (120/20) and Volvo (116/16) during June.
Hino continues to perform solidly (88/20) to retain fourth ahead of Isuzu (69/10) in fifth position. DAF (64/10), UD (49/7), Iveco (27/4) and Mercedes-Benz (22/6) all retain their positions month-on-month to round out the top-10 brands.
In the new trailer market, Fruehauf (73/12) continues to lead the market for both monthly and year-to-date registrations.
Transport Trailers (43/7) continues in second ahead of Patchell (36/8) while Roadmaster (32/7) moves ahead of Domett (28/3) into fourth place.
TMC (22/5) retains sixth while TES (21/7) moves ahead of M.T.E (20/4) and Transfleet (17/2). Lowes (15/2) completes the YTD top-10.
