Tough November for truck and trailer market
Posted: 05-Dec-2025 |
November was another challenging month for the New Zealand new truck and trailer market.
A total of 279 new truck registrations for the month sees the market well behind the 532 registrations recorded in the same month in 2024.
The truck market (over 4.5t GVM) for November is also well behind the October 2025 total of 350 registrations, and year-to-date (YTD) the total new registrations represent only two-thirds of the volume achieved in the same period last year.
The strongest monthly total in 2025 has been 367 registrations in July and the weakest monthly tally is 270 units in April.
New trailer registrations of 69 units in November are well down on 113 units in the corresponding month last year and the trailer market now totals 876 registrations YTD – down from 1336 in the first 11 months of 2024.
One sector showing some growth is the crossover segment (3.5-4.5t GVM) with November’s 246 registrations up from 232 in November 2024 and 208 in October 2025. Three brands dominate just over 80% of this segment with Fiat 387, Mercedes-Benz 364 and LDV 333, the leaders.
Across the truck market (over 4.5t GVM) Isuzu remains New Zealand’s top-selling brand. Isuzu recorded 63 registrations for November ahead of Mercedes-Benz on 36, Hino 30, Iveco 27, Scania 24 and Fuso 23.
The November figures extend Isuzu’s 2025 market leadership with 647 registrations YTD and 18.7% market share with Hino (30/482) just edging ahead of Fuso (23/475) for second position and Scania (24/323) remaining in fourth position.
Iveco (27/265) ranks fifth ahead of Mercedes-Benz (36/209), Kenworth (9/190), and Volvo (4/174), ahead of DAF (8/127) and UD (15/127) sharing tenth.
The premium segment (above 23t GVM) is comfortably led by Scania (24/305) ahead of Kenworth (9/190) and Volvo (4/166). Iveco recorded 15 registrations in November to rank second for the month behind Scania.
The trailer segment in November is headed by Fruehauf with 9 registrations and 144 units YTD. Next are Patchell (8/91), Transport Trailers (2/62), Roadmaster (7/58) and Dommett (3/51).
