NZI Truckie Rest Zone - Paengaroa on Wednesday 20 May
Posted: 07-May-2026 |
Heavy vehicle drivers are invited to pause, refresh and check their wellbeing at the NZI Truckie Rest Zone on Wednesday, May 20 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Aimed to tackle driver fatigue and promote road safety by offering practical support and expert advice to truck drivers on the road.
The rest zone provided complimentary refreshments and on-site health checks, giving drivers an opportunity to recover and prepare for the next leg of their journeys. NZI Fleet Fit experts will be available to speak directly with drivers about fatigue management and ways to stay safe and well behind the wheel.
The initiative is proudly supported by the NZ Police Commercial Vehicle Safety Team and Hato Hone St John, bringing a combined focus on safety, health and enforcement to the roadside support offering. Organisers emphasised that fatigue is a major cause of road accidents, and framed the rest zone as a practical, positive action to reduce risk and protect both drivers and other road users.
Events like the Truckie Rest Zone give drivers easy access to preventive care and education at a time and place that suits their schedules, and are shown to reduce short-term fatigue and encourage safer driving practices when combined with continued workplace fatigue management.
NZI and partner agencies encouraged fleet operators and drivers to use the service to “refresh and recover” before continuing their journeys and highlighted the value of community partnerships in keeping New Zealand roads safer for everyone.
