NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is progressing Mill Road Stage 1 Road of National Significance (RoNS) through the Fast-track Approvals Act process, with the project’s substantive application lodged last month.

National Manager Planning and Development, Jess Andrew says the lodgement is an important step in the project’s consenting phase.

“Lodging the substantive application Mill Road Stage 1 under the Fast-track Approvals Act is an important milestone,” Ms Andrew says. “It helps ensure the project is well positioned for future funding decisions, while design, consenting and other supporting workstreams continue.”

Mill Road Stage 1 will support growth in south Auckland and, when constructed, improve the efficiency and resilience of the transport network between Manukau and Alfriston.

“The project will provide more reliable journeys and better network resilience for people travelling in this fast-growing part of Auckland,” Ms Andrew says.

“It will also support safer and more efficient movement for all users, with improvements including additional lanes, upgraded intersections and new walking and cycling facilities.”

The Environmental Protection Authority manages the Fast-track Approvals Act process independently of NZTA. A panel convener will appoint an expert panel to consider the application. Timing of the process is determined by the panel convener.
