Mercedes-Benz Trucks Expands Electric Fleet with New eActros 400 and Enhanced Customisation

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has officially unveiled the new eActros 400, a fresh variant based on the technology of its flagship eActros 600 long-haul truck. The announcement, made during a press event in Molsheim, France, marks a significant expansion of the company's battery-electric truck portfolio, designed to offer over 40 customisable combinations to better meet diverse logistics requirements for both long-distance and heavy-duty distribution haulage.

The second generation of the eActros family now provides customers with extensive modularity. The lineup includes the eActros 400 with two battery packs (414 kWh total capacity) and the established eActros 600 with three packs (621 kWh total capacity). Both models are available as a semitrailer tractor or a platform chassis and can be configured with either the proven L-cab, ideal for frequent entry and exit, or the new, aerodynamically optimized ProCabin, designed for maximum comfort on long-haul journeys. This flexibility allows transport companies to select a vehicle tailored to their specific needs regarding range, payload, and driver comfort.

"The eActros 600 proves that battery-electric long-distance haulage is a reality," stated Achim Puchert, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks. He noted the vehicle's successful operation in over 15 European countries but stressed the importance of infrastructure, adding, "For the transformation to succeed, the expansion of the charging infrastructure must keep pace with the vehicles, and the operation must be profitable for our customers".

The new models inherit key technologies from the eActros 600, including the efficient in-house electric axle, long-lasting lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells, and advanced safety systems. The new eActros 400 variants are positioned as an attractively priced entry into electromobility, capable of achieving a range of up to 480 kilometers in heavy-duty distribution applications. The eActros 600 remains the choice for long-haul, with a range of 500 to 560 kilometers depending on the configuration. Both models feature the Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2, which offers enhanced connectivity and voice control, and an electric-specific Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) system that uses navigation data to optimize efficiency.

With this expansion, Mercedes-Benz Trucks will phase out production of the first-generation eActros 300/400 models by the end of the year. The new models will be available for order starting in October 2025 in EU30 and select non-EU markets, with some rolling off the flexible production line at the Wörth am Rhein plant in 2025, alongside their diesel-powered counterparts.
