Mercedes-Benz to unveil Advanced Actros Safety Upgrade at Brisbane Truck Show

Mercedes-Benz is set to showcase a major safety upgrade for its Actros truck at the upcoming Brisbane Truck Show, held from May 15-18 at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. This new safety package, Active Brake Assist 6, incorporates five advanced radars, building significantly on the Actros’ previous single central radar and camera system. The newly added radars are positioned on the outer edges of the front bumper and on each side of the cab, delivering a remarkable 270-degree view around the vehicle.

This expanded radar coverage enhances the capabilities of the Active Side Guard Assist 2 (ASGA) system, improving detection of hazards on the sides and allowing for greater protection—notably when the truck is turning left at up to 20km/h. If a hazard is detected during such a maneuver, the system can even bring the truck to a complete stop. In addition, the Actros retains and improves its automatic emergency braking for vehicles or pedestrians should the driver fail to respond to warnings of an impending collision.

Daimler Truck, the parent company, emphasizes a longstanding commitment to real-world safety. “Real world safety comes first, second and third at Daimler Truck,” said Daniel Whitehead, President and CEO of Daimler Truck Australia Pacific. “We want to do everything we can to reduce road trauma”. Andrew Assimo, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Operations, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the decision to include the best safety features possible as a straightforward one: “This is remarkable safety technology and we are thrilled we can include it as a fully-integrated system in the Mercedes-Benz product” .

These new safety features will become standard across all Actros models later this year. This innovation underscores Mercedes-Benz’s ongoing leadership in truck safety, first proven when it introduced advanced emergency braking systems to Australian trucks in 2012. Customers continue to value these advancements, recognising that driver and road user protection is paramount.
