Heavy vehicle drivers in Canterbury are encouraged to mark their calendars for Wednesday, 11 December, when the final NZI Truckie Rest Zone of the year rolls into Rakaia.

The rest zone offers truck drivers a chance to pull over, take a well-deserved break, and enjoy complimentary refreshments. Additionally, drivers will have the opportunity to undergo a health check and chat with NZI’s Fleet Fit experts about the importance of managing driver fatigue and staying safe on the road.

Fatigue remains a leading cause of road accidents in New Zealand, and NZI’s initiative is aimed at supporting truck drivers in maintaining their health and wellbeing while on the job. The event serves as both a reminder and a resource for drivers to prioritize their safety as they tackle long hours behind the wheel.

The rest zones are run with the support of the NZ Police Commercial Vehicle Safety Team and Hato Hone St John, offering drivers expert advice and assistance to promote safer journeys.

NZI encourages trucking companies and fleet managers to spread the word and invite their teams to stop by in Rakaia to refresh, recover, and gear up for the next leg of their journeys.
