Isuzu New Zealand is pleased to announce that Team NZ achieved an impressive fourth-place finish at the Isuzu Motors I1GP technical competition held last week in Yokohama, Japan.
The annual event, which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year, brings together the world's best Isuzu-trained technicians to compete in rigorous practical and theory-based problem-solving exercises.
This year's competition featured 37 teams from Isuzu markets around the globe, each comprising a coach and two technicians. The New Zealand team, consisting of Coach Jono Ward from Blackwells Isuzu, and technicians Alex Farquhar (Blackwells Isuzu) and Logan Winter (Wadsco Trucks), came within just three points of claiming third place, demonstrating the exceptional skill level present in New Zealand's Isuzu dealer network.
Adding to the team's success, Logan Winter was individually recognised as the 6th best technician among 74 contestants, a remarkable achievement that highlights the calibre of training and expertise within the New Zealand Isuzu community.
The I1GP competition has been a cornerstone event for Isuzu's global network, fostering technical excellence and innovation among service professionals. New Zealand teams have enjoyed considerable success over the years, with multiple top placings establishing the country as a consistent performer on the world stage.
"We're very proud of Team NZ's achievement and this continues the history of regular top placings in both the team and individual sections of the event," said David Ballantyne, General Manager, Isuzu New Zealand. "We have some very skilled Isuzu techs in the NZ Dealer network to support customers and the I1GP competition has been important in developing that skill base."
Ballantyne also acknowledged the commitment required from both the technicians and their employers: "I would also like to thank both Blackwells Isuzu and Wadsco Trucks for allowing the team members to train and participate in the competition which is a big commitment."
The competition requires months of preparation and dedication, with team members balancing their regular customer service responsibilities with intensive training. The practical challenges they face test their diagnostic abilities, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of Isuzu's latest technologies and service procedures.
This latest success reinforces Isuzu New Zealand's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of technical service and support for its customers. The skills developed through participation in the I1GP competition directly benefit New Zealand truck operators, ensuring they receive world-class service from their local Isuzu dealers.
As the I1GP competition marked its 20th anniversary, New Zealand's continued strong performance demonstrates the country's ongoing investment in technical training and excellence within the commercial vehicle sector.
