Hokitika Roadworks To Affect Road Users, Residents
Posted: 12-Feb-2026 |

Resurfacing of State Highway 6/Fitzherbert Street/Ruatapu Road through the heart of Hokitika from this weekend may mean some disruption for road users and residents over the week that follows.

Scheduled to happen from 6pm to 6am daily, from Sunday 15 February to Saturday 21 February, the work will take place on SH6/Fitzherbert Street/Ruatapu Road from the north side of Richards Drive through to the Hokitika River Bridge. It will mean delays for road users on SH6 of up to 20 minutes while bitumen is being sprayed. However short detours will be available via side streets.

For nearby residents, it is likely to mean some noise and disruption while the work is taking place. People are also asked to not park their cars on the affected stretch of road during this period of roadworks. If there is a vehicle parked on the road and the owner cannot be located, the vehicle will have to be towed out of the work area.

We thank all those affected for their patience while this necessary work is carried out to maintain the road for all users. The work may be postponed or extended because of poor weather, and if this happens, advance notification will be provided.
