In a significant move for the commercial vehicle industry, Daimler Truck and Volvo Group have signed a binding agreement to create a joint venture aimed at developing a groundbreaking software-defined vehicle platform. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in transforming the sector, focusing on enhancing safety, comfort, and efficiency.

The newly formed company will be headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, and will establish a new industry standard by creating a versatile truck operating system. This platform will be accessible to other commercial vehicle manufacturers, allowing broader adoption and application.

Despite this collaboration, Daimler Truck and Volvo Group will remain competitors in all other business areas, maintaining their unique product and service offerings.

Pioneering Digital Transformation - Karin Rådström, CEO of Daimler Truck, highlighted the importance of this partnership: “The signing demonstrates our joint commitment to lead the digital transformation of our industry.”

Echoing this sentiment, Martin Lundstedt, President and CEO of the Volvo Group, stated, “Together, we are pioneering a new era of self-optimising trucks, setting an industry standard.”

The joint venture will focus on developing centralised high-performance control units capable of managing substantial data loads. This initiative will decouple software from hardware development, enabling over-the-air updates and enhancing the customer experience.

The transaction is anticipated to conclude in the first half of 2025, pending regulatory approvals. Daimler Truck and Volvo Group remain committed to their competitive offerings while embracing this collaborative innovation.
