Cummins Rolls Out Complete Powertrain Integration for the First Time in Australia
Posted: 22-May-2025 |

Cummins made history at the 2025 Brisbane Truck Show with the first-ever Australian display of its fully integrated heavy-duty powertrain, showcasing the next evolution in performance, efficiency, and total vehicle optimization.

Bringing together the X15 engine, Eaton Cummins Endurant 18-speed automated transmission, and Meritor axles, brakes, and drivelines, the system represents a unified Cummins solution from engine to road - a major milestone in the company's transformation into a complete, fuel diverse and digitally connected powertrain provider.

"The Brisbane Truck Show was our first opportunity to show what full Cummins integration looks like - and more importantly what it delivers," said David Cole, Managing Director, Cummins Drivetrain and Braking System (Australia).

"This is more than a powertrain - it's a platform for optimization," said Cole.

It's a system designed to reduce downtime, improve fuel economy, and lower total cost of ownership."

The integrated powertrain is a result of Cummins' strategic 2022 acquisition of Meritor, which complements the established Eaton Cummins joint venture and gives Cummins complete control over all major driveline elements.

This synergy is delivering smarter, more connected, and highly efficient solutions designed specifically for Australia's demanding linehaul and vocational transport sectors.

The drivetrain is completed by the Meritor MT21-165GP tandem drive axle, widely trusted in linehaul and commercial fleets across Australia. the latest linehaul specification removes the oil pump, improving fuel economy by up to 1.5%.

For vocational fleets, a version with an integrated oil pump provides increased durability and protection in heavy-duty and off-road applications.

RPL Permalube driveshafts - engineered to be maintenance-free for over one million kilometers - offer unmatched durability and reliability, especially in high-kilometer operations.

The Endurant XD Pro 18-speed transmission brings next-generation shift logic and precision to equation. Designed for torque ratings up to 2779 Nm it delivers smooth, faster shifting, even in steep terrain and tough operating conditions. Paired with the X15 Euro 6 low-end torque, the result is a seamless, high efficiency driving experience.

"It is designed as a single system, with every component calibrated and integrated to work together, reducing friction points and improving uptime."

Through Cummins' expansive national service and support network, and part retailers, fleet operators can also access diagnostics, training, and parts support to maximize uptime and ensure rapid response, no matter where the vehicle is operating.

The Cummins-Meritor range on display will also include locally assembled and application-specific drivetrains solutions.

These Australian-engineered enhancements reinforce Cummins' long-standing commitment to local industry, job creation, and delivering solutions tailored for the unique needs of operators in the region.
