Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has announced a reshuffle of his ministerial team to prioritise economic growth in 2025, with key changes in several portfolios. Among these changes, Chris Bishop has been appointed as the new Minister of Transport, a vital position in the Government's ambitious infrastructure plans.
“Chris Bishop becomes Minister of Transport, taking responsibility for an additional part of the Government’s ambitious infrastructure agenda,” said Luxon. This portfolio is set to play a significant role in promoting growth and addressing New Zealand's infrastructure needs.
Bishop’s appointment aligns with the Government’s broader push to "unleash economic growth" by advancing major projects and modernizing transportation systems. His leadership is expected to streamline infrastructure development and fortify regional connectivity, which are essential for the nation's economic expansion.
And in case you’re wondering, previous Transport Minister Simeon Brown will become Minister of Health.
“Simeon is an outstanding and diligent minister who has done an excellent job delivering on the Government’s priorities. Off the back of that performance, I have decided his skills are best placed to take leadership of our health system going forward,” says Luxton.
The Prime Minister's confidence in Bishop stems from his prior contributions to the Government, where he demonstrated a commitment to delivering on key priorities. Luxon highlighted Bishop's readiness to take on this critical role as part of the refreshed ministerial lineup intended to drive growth and productivity across the country .
