Sime Motors New Zealand opened its new truck service centre and Volvo showroom at the Ruakura Superhub in Hamilton on June 2, strengthening its national network to support heavy transport operators.

The Ruakura facility is one of three new Truckstops service centres developed by Sime Motors and is now the company’s largest workshop in the North Island.

The opening follows the establishment of a major hub at Waterloo Park in Christchurch last year and the start of operations at a new Kaweora Drive, Tauriko site in Tauranga on March 30.

Pat McKenna, Managing Director – New Zealand and Director of Commercial Vehicles Asia Pacific says the investment reflects Sime Motors’ long-term commitment to the New Zealand transport sector.

“These construction projects demonstrate our commitment and investment in key locations to support our customers’ operations,” McKenna says.

The Ruakura site includes a Volvo and Mack truck showroom, plus an expanded workshop and the parts capacity to service all four Sime Motors truck brands – Volvo, Mack, Hino and UD.

The new Hamilton facility is three times larger than the company’s former Quentin Drive site and includes additional service bays and COF lanes to increase capacity and improve turnaround times.

The official opening included a formal karakia led by mana whenua and was attended by Sime Darby Berhad Group Chief Executive Officer ‘Dato Jeffri Davidson and Volvo Group Australia President Martin Merrick.

Tainui Group Holdings Chief Executive Craig West says the opening of the Sime facility is a welcome addition to the community of large-scale distribution businesses at Ruakura Superhub.

“Sime’s commitment to open a large-scale truck servicing facility and showroom is an awesome fit with all the transport related activity generated by other businesses at the Superhub,” says West.

“Having these services on the precinct is another great step towards the overall logistics and industrial ecosystem we are building here.”

Hamilton Branch Manager Jason Dwane says the location and scale of the new facility would benefit customers across Waikato and the upper North Island.

“The site is only 600 metres from State Highway 1, making it easier to get trucks in and back on the road,” he says.

With the expanded facility now operational, Sime Motors is also looking to grow its Hamilton team.

“With a bigger workshop, we’re on the lookout for talented diesel technicians and people in a range of support roles to join the team,” Dwane says.

“It’s a great opportunity for anyone looking for a modern workshop, the latest tooling, and a chance to work with some of New Zealand’s best truck brands.”

The new location is 18 Te Ipukura Street in the Ruakura Superhub precinct.
