In the past five years Piopio couple Steven and Donna Pari have established and diversified their Pari Transport operation, fulfilling Steven’s passion for the industry and his interest in providing a locally owned and operated service for their hometown in the King Country.

The couple followed their passion of trucking and were ready for a new challenge in the rural sector after contracting to Progress Transport for more than 10 years.

Steadily the Pari Transport fleet has grown to nine trucks in that time – four bulk tippers, a logger, and four livestock units – with the company recently adding this impressive new Scania S 770 livestock unit as its latest fleet upgrade.

The new Scania B8x4NZ was sold by Callan Short and features a Kraft Engineering deck meticulously designed by James Worsnop and team in Ngongotaha. The 5-axle trailer – fitted with Nationwide stock crates – is a real eye-catcher finished in the Pari Transport silver and charcoal colours with yellow detailing and branding.

Fleet Image in Te Awamutu and Hamilton did the painting on the Scania with Brad Silvester applying the signs and graphics.

“The distinctive metallic silver and the charcoal is a colour scheme I really liked, and I think they work together well,” says Steven.

“The yellow is a really strong colour that helps with visibility and makes the truck stand out. But you don’t want too much of it because I think it would overpower the look.

Steven considers himself to be “definitely a Scania fan” and says the new S 770 is the flagship of the Pari Transport fleet.

“The things I like about Scania are the driving comfort as well as the servicing and maintenance support they offer,” he says.

“The comfort and refinement are like being inside a really nice modern car.”

The S 770 works on a 54-tonne permit and can be seen throughout the North Island. It’s the first of Steven and Donna’s trucks to be fitted with Kraft gear.

“I was impressed with a prototype livestock deck by Kraft and confident James would provide a good finish. I am very pleased with their product.

“The stock crates have been re-furbished by Nationwide off our old truck, and they are as good as new,” Steven says.

Boasting 770hp, the Euro 6 16-litre DC16 V8 develops a massive 3700Nm of torque and is matched up to a Scania Opticruise GRSO926R 12-speed AMT with 4100D retarder and Scania 735 Hub Reduction rear axles to assure traction in tough rural terrain.

The Scania rides on spring suspension at the front and rear air suspension fitted with built-in scales. The Scania disc brake system includes the latest ABS, EBS and ESP technology.

Steven and Donna selected the Highline Sleeper Cab configuration for their S 770 and ticked the boxes on the microwave, coffee machine, fridge and V8 interior trim options.

The S 770 is also fitted with a drop visor, offset rims and Big Foot CTI tyre pressure control. The custom tanks, stainless work and tool boxes were made by Kraft Engineering.

A common theme with all the trucks in the Pari Transport fleet is a name beginning with `True’. The new S 770 is named True Sunny after its experienced driver and stock man Paul `Sunny’ Hedley.

“All of our trucks have a name starting with `True’, which is a bit of a joke among the team. The first R 730 Scania was True Bro, and the theme has just followed,” he explains.
