Some companies feel as if they’ve been set up to a master template, focused from the get-go on carrying out a particular task.

But that certainly isn’t the case with Christchurch’s Waireka Group (‘Waireka’ translate as ‘sweet water’). Here’s a medium-sized operation (around a dozen trucks on the fleet) that has been in business just 15 years but offers: container transport via both swing-lifters and skellies, Hiab crane trucks, mini fuel tankers, baby salmon transport, curtainsider metro delivery, warehouse storage and 3PL.

But what on a quick recitation of these facts might look like a rather scattergun approach has been the result of a more organic growth, of taking opportunities as they’ve presented themselves, sometimes from quite unexpected directions.
