The New Zealand new truck market may just be on its way back to normal with the March NZ Transport Agency registration statistics showing 503 (4.5 tonnes to maximum GVM) registrations for the month of March in comparison to 2020’s 347 while Year to Date numbers have grown 7.08% from 1045 (2020) to 1119 (2021) - however not quite to 2019’s record breaking 1300 units.

NZ Transport Agency registration statistics show that the heavy trailer market also followed suit with a great month in March – the 131 March registrations were significantly up on the same month last year of 91 registrations, and the YTD was also up 27 registrations on 2021…however 34 down on the 2019 YTD registrations.

In the overall 4.5t-maximum GVM truck market, Isuzu returned to the top spot this month with 104 units and indeed top spot for the year with 220 units, however on YTD market share comparison Isuzu has dipped to 19.7% while FUSO with 210 units has grown to 18.8%.

In the 3.5-4.5t GVM crossover segment, Fiat (92/32) continued their lead, way ahead of Volswagen (36/30), Mercedes-Benz (13/3), Peugeot (11/7), Ford (9/7) Renault (6/1), and new-comers LDV (2/2) and Isuzu (1/1).

Kenworth (68/28) has continued their lead in the 23t-max GVM premier division, although closely chased by Volvo (66/29) in second position.Scania (57/31) retained third having the most registrations in this category for the month of March.

In the heavy trailer market, No. 1 Patchell (48/21) retained its lead with a very good month with 21 trailers registered, ahead of second placed Fruehauf (35/14). M.T.E (24/14) and Domett (23/9) both moved ahead of Roadmaster (20/3) into third and fourth respectively.
