Genter Attends International Transport Forum
Posted: 21-May-2018 |

Associate Transport Minister and Minister for Women Julie Anne Genter will travel to Leipzig, Germany on Sunday to attend the International Transport Forum Summit.

The 2018 International Transport Forum Summit runs from May 23 to 25 with key themes covering transport safety and security. The hope is that Genter will gather important insights from European transport leaders that are applicable in New Zealand.

Talks will address climate change and transport, the resilience of transport infrastructure funding, and how to increase safety on city streets. It is unknown at this stage how much of the talks will focus on roading and road transport.

Genter will travel to Denmark and Sweden following the summit to meet with officials and experts on transport safety and to discuss the implementation of the government's 'Vision Zero' policy which aims to achieve a transport system with no fatalities or serious injuries.

"Sweden is one of the safest countries in the world has cut its road death rate by investing in safety infrastructure and setting safer speed limits.

"Earlier this year I announced that the Government will investigate adopting Sweden's 'Vision Zero' approach to road safety in New Zealand.

"I am looking forward to learning from their experience while I am there," Genter says.
