Cybersecurity - prevention is better than cure

As more and more truck and transport operations embrace the efficiencies and ease that comes with online business solutions, Toll's confirmation that it was the target of a Ransomware attack should highlight the need to ensure you keep your doors and windows fully guarded.

For those that missed the story, 'Toll Group confirmed it was the subject of a targeted ransomware attack, which has now been referred to authorities for a criminal investigation, adding there is no evidence personal data has been compromised.'

Toll Group shut down a number of its IT systems following a cybersecurity incident. It reportedly faced issues since Friday January 31, with group web pages displaying a warning message.

"As a precautionary measure, Toll has made the decision to shut down a number of systems in response to a suspected cybersecurity incident," the statement says.

"We are investigating the root cause to resolve the issue. We expect several Toll customer-facing applications to be impacted as a result. Our immediate priority is to resume services to impacted customers as soon as possible. We will continue to provide regular updates."

It noted some Toll Online services are unavailable "due to an unexpected outage", including:

Track n Trace/POD/Finance Images (Toll Contract Logistics)
Track and Trace (Toll Contract Logistics)
Thomas Knudsen replaced Michael Byrne as Toll managing director this year

A Toll spokesperson said that IT teams are currently working with global cybersecurity experts to resolve the issue.

"Toll is making progress with our recovery activities to restore our systems and Toll customer-facing applications. Our immediate focus is on bringing our systems back online in a controlled and secure manner. Business continuity plans have been activated to maintain customer service and operations. Staying focused on customers remains at the forefront of Toll's priorities as we restore our services and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. We want to thank our customers for their patience and support."

The above issue has caused obvious stress and disruption, something that no-one in the industry would appreciate, so we urge you to do what you can to ensure your system is as bulletproof as possible.
